Married in Las Vegas, Christmas carols in July, an LA debut and a new MD!

Just reading the title makes our Curvy selves shiver with delight!  Yes, its been a while since the Curves have posted in the blogosphere.  It’s not been for want or desire!  There’s lots going on in Curvy Land and it’s about time to catch up and share!

The most obvious piece of exciting news is our move to WordPress.com!  We loved our Blogger blog, but we just felt the need to get a fresh perspective on blogging about our Curvy adventures. Share us with your friends…we’d be ever so grateful!

Last month was filled with some wonderful opportunities for us but the highlight  of the month was the gig we had for Vodafone, UK.  The guests thought they were attending a real Las Vegas wedding.  Boy, were they in for a surprise! From wacky bridesmaids/nuns (that was us!) to barbershop style groomsmen (Fifth Ave), a handsome and wild Minister (Ron Smith), the crazy parents (Rob Hyatt and Terry Gandy) of the bride (Jennifer Vossmer) and of course the groom-turned-Elvis (Brian Mills) they were all in for quite a ride! We spent the whole evening entertaining these fine folks with awesome songs like “Say A Little Prayer” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” to our zany and splashy Nuns number, “I Will Follow Him”. There were silly antics like hoola hoops and a real pink Cadillac that drives right into the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel!  It was truly one of the most fun corporate gigs we have ever had and wonderful to be able to use our acting chops as well as sing.  As you can see, when the Curves get together, there is nothing but fun!

So, where do snowflakes and Christmas carols come in to play, here?  Dangerous Curves is hard at work on their sophomore effort in recording and this time it will be a Christmas EP. We are working on and singing through arrangements from all over the globe! As soon as we make our final song choices, we’ll let you know…meanwhile, it sure does help keep us cool in the hot summer sun of Vegas to sing through these super cool stylings of the season.

OK! ARE YOU READY?!  Dangerous Curves is THRILLED to announce their Los Angeles cabaret debut on December 4th, 2011 at Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitellos!  Cited as “LA’s cabaret destination” by the Los Angeles Times, Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitellos is the #1 Cabaret Supper Club in the greater Los Angeles area!  Stop it!!! How super curvy-licious is that?!  We are beyond excited for this enormous opportunity and we are already hard at work, writing this show.

We knew we had to bring in some big guns so along with that announcement, the Curves are over-the-moon to announce that  Dan Ellis has been officially chosen as our Musical Director.  Here’s a bit about Dan, straight from his Reverbnation page.

“Dan Ellis is not only the bandleader of the Las Vegas Classic Jazz Band, he’s the music director for the newest production to hit the Las Vegas Strip: Nunsense, at the Las Vegas Hilton. He is also the music director for “DRINKIN’ – SINGIN’ – SWINGIN’ – Salute to Frank Sinatra – Sammy Davis Jr. – Dean Martin.” which recently performed to a sold-out crowd of 5,000 at the Colloseum at Caesars Windsor, Ontario. A Cheesehead by birth (from Green Bay, WI) he met his wife, Vicki, while working the high seas as a Musician Supervisor for Carnival Cruise Lines. He now makes Henderson, NV his home and his proudest achievement is being Dad to sons Christopher (7) and Matthew (3).”

Alright Curvy friends, that is quite an exciting  line up of announcements for a Saturday afternoon in July! Feel free to drop us a line anytime and find us in all these fun places! Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, find us at dangerouscurveslasvegas.com!

Road Trip to Roadhaven!

February starts us off with a road trip to Arizona. It was so much fun to travel together! We made huge plans, bought lottery tickets, drank wine and, of course, performed our most popular show “Girl Talk” for the lovely folks of Roadhaven Resort!

Our show “Girl Talk” is fully customizable, and we design it to suit our audience. This version included our “Judy Garland” and “Old Time Radio” medleys, uplifting songs like “How You Live” from Point of Grace, one of our faves “I’m A Woman” from Smokey Joes Cafe, and a whole lot more!

We just love these types of shows as they give us the chance to meet our audience. We were treated just beautifully, from help unloading and running our sound, to yummy treats and diet coke back stage…delish!

Plus, we enjoyed some lovely conversation with each other, which believe us is a treat.  Usually we have business to discuss and songs to rehearse and places to visit, but this time we had 6 hours in the car and then hotel time and uninterrupted wine and talk time. We even got locked out of the hotel in the pool area (we were enjoying the spa and talking and we lost track of time)! Luckily, the front desk guy was able to get us back in safe and sound. Just another Curvy adventure!

A Jazzy Christmas!

It is only the 2nd week of December and so much has already been accomplished! The biggest news is that Dangerous Curves produced the Christmas show for the Flamingo Library Theatre, “A Jazzy Christmas” and it was an absolute success! We had special guest stars, we had surprise guests, we had a gorgeous set, we sang the Hallelujah chorus! Yes, it’s true! Three girls in Las Vegas sang the Hallelujah chorus and rocked the house!

We were so very fortunate to have the Swing City Dolls as one of our guests. They are 3, absolutely adorable girls who do the “vintage” thing in a contemporary way. They sang “Hitch A Ride With Santa” and then we did a fantastic “Santa Medley” featuring each Doll on a favorite song-of-the-season with the Curves on back ups. We also had the pleasure of having the popular jazz quartet, Fifth Ave sing their amazing versions of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas and Carol of the Bells/My Favorite Things. If you have never heard these men sing, PUT IT ON THE TOP OF YOUR LIST! Their arrangements (Rob Hyatt) are truly magical and the Curves counted ourselves as lucky that they were available to share the stage with us.

Probably, the best moments for me were sharing the stage with our husbands! Yes, its true, all our husbands are awesome singers and truly brought the house down! Michael (Gret’s hubby) sang “Rudy” a jazzy version of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” with all of us on back up duty, Ron (Lisa’s hubby) sang “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and my hubby sang “O Holy Night” with all of us on back up as well. The audience couldn’t get enough of our boys and we just loved it!

We made appearances this month at Sam’s Town and Nellis Air Force Base and several private parties and now, its time for a bit of a Christmas break.

All the Curves have lots going on with their solo gigs and family events and of course, our annual Curvy Christmas dinner together! Mmmm, can’t wait for delicious wine and food served up by one of our fave, gluten free place, Maggianos.

Octoberfest of Music for the Curves!

It was an amazing month of music with the Curvy girls of Dangerous Curves! We sang our curvy tushes off!

Our first jaunt of the month was all the way in China Lake for the ladies of WACOM, an wonderful organization that raises money for those in need in their area. We had to meet up at 5am (thank you Starbucks!) to be on the road to make it in time for our sound check and show. It was a total blast, with Lisa’s Dad, Wayne Rogers taking good care of our sound and getting us safely there and back. Thanks, Wayne!

Next we had a gig at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino for the ladies of JAG. What a sweet group of ladies! We had a blast and they even shared their coffee with us after the show.

We were also invited to perform at the PASNV 20th Anniversary show at one of our favorite venues, the Flamingo LIbrary Theatre. There were lots of great performers there who had performed through the years and it was wonderful to chat with everyone. Lots of great musical memories! 🙂

Maybe the most exciting for us was the debut of an acoustic version of our show. We were proud to be a part of the “Green Girl Arts and Jazz Festival” this year. Green Girl empowers and celebrates female artists from spoken word to artist to musician. They also are dedicated to highlighting awareness to the carbon footprint and supporting The Shade Tree Shelter for women and children in need. Tony Bronco, our MD and all around fabulous pianist and person, played for us and it was totally dreamy! We were at The Resort at Mt. Charleston, surrounded by mountains and trees and creatures and singing our show in an MTV unplugged style and it was pure bliss! We felt so open and free and creative and we are ready to do it again!

Now, its Christmas time for the Curves as we prepare for our show on December 5th at the Flamingo Library Theatre. We are writing, producing and performing, and we even have some special guests planned. When all is confirmed, we’ll let you know!

“Girl Talk” at the Starbright Theater

We were working hard for you this weekend at the lovely Starbright Theatre in Las Vegas.

We performed our hit show, “Girl Talk” which features the songs of some of the great female singers of all time, Broadway old and new, our take on the great standards and even a few surprises! We had 2 special guest artists with us: the gorgeous and talented Ray Jon who accompanied us on acoustic guitar as we sang one of our new songs, “Hold On” and we sang a 6 part acapella “God Bless America” with 5th Avenue, a superb vocal jazz group.

As you can see from the above picture, we had a fantastic band as well! Our MD and pianist, Tony Bronco, Jeff Davis on bass and Gary Olds holding the beat. This was a full production 90 minute show with costume changes, wonderful lighting and sound (thanks to Jim and Dale!) and a whole lot fun! A big, huge thanks to our families and friends, for ALL the help you gave us this weekend and all the love we get from you everyday!

If you want to add fabulous entertainment to your event, you can find us here!

Menopause the Musical, Dangerous Curves and more!

It was our distinct pleasure to perform as the spotlight guest on Thursday afternoon with some of the ladies from Menopause The Musical (currently playing at the Luxor Hotel) at the lovely Suncoast Hotel and Casino. The Curves love performing there as the audience is welcoming and fun and the stage is beautiful.

There were certainly a lot of chicksingers present as the hostess for the afternoon was Ms. Skye Miles and the featured performers were some of the ladies from her cast of Menopause. Laura Lee O’Connell, Annette Verdelino and Lori Legacy rounded out the talent filled afternoon. These girls are not only great singers, but also fabulous actresses and awesome girls and loads of fun backstage. And, let me tell you, Ms. Skye Miles is one helluva singer and did a wonderful job hosting.

On Saturday, we had a great rehearsal with one of our special guest stars, 5th Avenue. Rob Hyatt has arranged an absolutely killer version of God Bless America for us and them to perform at our show on Saturday, May 8th. Yes! It’s 6 parts!!! OMG, people, it is gorgeous. Rob is like arranger extraordinaire and I am so excited to have him around us! Not only that, we recorded our CD “Girl Talk” in Rob’s studio. He is a multi-talented man, for sure and we love him!

It’s only a few short days until the show at the Starbright, with lots in-between from more rehearsals to a local festival and…well, you’ll just have to keep reading to keep up with the Curvy girls! Check us out at Twitter, and our Facebook page and at dangerouscurveslasvegas.com

A Salute to Bill Fayne!

It was great fun last weekend to be a part of honoring and performing in a benefit for a man, not only filled with huge talent, but obviously so beloved by the performing community of Las Vegas and beyond.  Bill Fayne, who is probably best known as Clint Holmes musical director and founding member of the Las Vegas Tenors, had some serious medical issues recently.  You can read more about his story here.

Clint Holmes & Kelly Clinton not only hosted the show, but performed as well, along with the likes of Terry Fator, Louis Anderson, Rick Faugno (Jersey Boys), Jerry Lopez (Santa Fe & the Fat City Horns), Pete Barbutti, Robin Leach, Lance Burton, Mark Giovi (Bite at Stratosphere), Michelle Johnson, Domenick Allen (former lead singer of Foreigner) and his daughter Cayleigh Capaldi, Susan Anton, Cast members from Menopause the Musical (Skye Dee Miles, Sandra Benton, Vida Corimbi), Lena Prima, Voce Vegas, Frankie Scinta, Las Vegas Tenors, Tina Walsh (Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular), Gayle Steele, Vinnie Falcone, and so many more! It was absolutely crazy to be surrounded by THE talent of Las Vegas! Dangerous Curves, my sister, Lori and Michelle sang back up for the one and only Mark Giovi.  The song was called “Young Angels” and was written by Mark and Bob Grimes.  It kinda felt like we were in a rock concert!  We also joined in the finale and the audience was absolutely thrilled!

Our next focus is on our next big show, May 8th at the Starbright Theatre.  Many of our most requested songs with a few new ones and maybe even a special guest star!  Hope to see you there! Check us out on Twitter and Facebook!

The Curves at the Four Seasons

Hello Curvy Friends! We had a great time this week with the ladies of Towne Club at their monthly lunch meeting at the Four Seasons.

This picture was taken in the foyer of the Seasons and the flowers smelled absolutely amazing. From the valet who greeted us and helped us to the ballroom with our things to Lauren (group sales) to Dan (head sound engineer) Max (our fave bellman) the service and atmosphere at the Seasons is impeccable and we look forward to someday being a guest of this lovely hotel. Sooner than later. Please!!!

Anyway, back to the fun of the day, which was of course, performing our show, “Girl Talk” for a room full of women! Lots of pretty outfits and hats and shoes in that room, for sure! We had a great time and our “Sentimental Journey” set, “Judy Garland Medley” and “Moon River” were beautifully received. We work hard at designing shows for each client that is particular to their needs and its clear that we really hit the mark on Tuesday by the amount of hugs received after the show! How lucky are we to be able to sing gorgeous songs, in the middle of the day, at the Four Seasons?! Life is great and we are a grateful trio of Curvy chicksingers…

2010 is off to a great start!

The Curves were thrilled to be called again by Tom and John of the Performing Arts Society of Nevada to perform in the beautiful Flamingo Library Theatre. The theme of the show was New York, New York. The original artist scheduled to perform had to cancel at the last minute so several audience favorites were called and the Curves were thrilled to learn they are amongst great company! We shared the stage with the lovely Laurie Caceres of Jubilee, Vegas favorites Lou Garcia and Gary Oakes, Tony Arias and Lloyd Ziel, Lee Hughes, and the fabulous Wes Winters! We performed one of our newest numbers, “Lullaby of Broadway” ala the Andrews Sisters and a comedy number “The Girl in 14G”. Comedy numbers are always daunting, but this time we really felt the timing begin to settle in. Exciting!

We’ve begun to dig into our latest musical addition-pop music! We are truly thinking outside the Curvy box with artists like; Duffy, Spice Girls, Michael Jackson, Jo Dee Messina, Shania Twain and more!!! Perhaps, I will post a quick tweet of one of our rehearsals soon and you can let us know what you think! Remember to think of us for any fantastic events, weddings and fun parties you are throwing! We work with some of the best musicians in town and we work hard to make sure you are getting the fabulous entertainment you need for your event.
