LATEST UPDATE: 9/12/12 Dangerous Curves’ Christmas CD!

Hello Friends!

Music is such an important part of our lives. Hearing a certain song can immediately take you back to an important memory in your life and it keeps that moment alive!

  • What songs do you have in your playlist?
  • What songs do you play to make you feel better or to relive a happy memory?
  • What songs do you play when you are working out to keep you inspired?

Have you ever wondered what it takes to record that music? It takes creativity, hard work and….money.

Our debut CD, Girl Talk, released in 2009, was completely self-funded. It was exciting and wonderful and worth every moment of work and effort…and every penny we put in. This time, however, we’d love to put our efforts and time towards the creativity and the music! And, that’s where you come in! YOU can become an integral part of our current recording project…our much awaited Christmas CD!

Simply go to dangerouscurvesmusic.com and join our curvy community! From our adorable, EXCLUSIVE merchandise and/or show tickets, to a VIP performance at our CD Release Party or personal Skype message, to Associate or Executive Producer credit on the CD, we have perks available for every budget (some starting as low as $5)!

We’ve had so many of you already join us (see the list below!), but we need to keep going strong. We are only ½ way to our goal, and there are only a few weeks left (campaign ends Oct 5th)! If you’ve already become a Curvy Contributor, a million thanks to you! If you haven’t yet, won’t you join us and become a permanent part of our Curvy Community?!?!? 🙂

Hot and Sunny in Vegas!

Mother Nature has clearly decided that this year, Spring is more a verb than a season! That’s ok, because the Curves are keepin’ their cool and sharing their music from one side of town all the way to Mesquite, Nevada!

Dangerous Curves with Tony Sacca and Musical Director, Dan Ellis

On Mother’s Day, you could find us out at the annual San Gennaro Feast at the Rio! The fabulous band was lead by our very own Musical Director Dan Ellis and the audience was absolutely amazing! We sang a few of Dangerous Curves most requested songs, Carole King’s  “Natural Woman”,  jazz classic “Cloudburst” and crowd favorite “I’m A Woman”.

This past weekend, we were the featured entertainment for a really fun corporate event!  The audiences were so much fun!  They absolutely loved our “Sentimental Journey, Radio Medley” and our “Judy Garland Medley”! And, you know what?  We love singing them, too! If you have never checked out our neighboring city of Mesquite, well then you should! We stayed at the Eureka Hotel and it was just great!  Very personable staff, clean, well appointed rooms, a pool and nice casino.  Karen even managed to win $45 on a penny slot machine! It’s just Curvy good luck!

Post Show Silliness in Mesquite!

We do have a MAJOR announcement coming…..maybe we could tell you just a little bit of it…..but then that would spoil the surprise, so……..guess you’ll just have to wait!  Check back soon! Like in 2 weeks!!!!

Head on over to our Facebook Page and be sure to “LIKE” us to hear about our upcoming shows and new music! And, as always, we are so grateful to have you in our curvy family and have the most curvalicious day possible!

Spring has Sprung in Las Vegas!

Friends of the Curves! It has been just a bit since you last heard from us. Not from lack of wanting to give you some Curvy love, we are just scheduled to the hilt!

Now, of course you know that it is really 3 curvy women who make up the Dangerous Curves. Three women who are not only blessed in their personal lives, but also their professional ones! Here are some fun tidbits about the girls…

Margaret (Gret) Menzies is a busy bee teaching, directing, and now one of the stars of Nunsense at the Las Vegas Hitlon! She also happens to married to one of the best pianists in town, Michael Gonzalez! Be sure to check out the newest and curviest “Sister” at the convent!

Karen Michaels is a Mommy, Blogger, teacher and a singer with the Special K Project! From attending school events to singing at events and weddings, she finds her writing time for her Mommy Blog and her cabaret show, in the wee hours when all are asleep! Thank goodness for all that curvy energy!

Lisa Smith is the busiest curves in town! She sings down at the Clarion with the amazing Shades of Sinatra, she has her own award -winning jazz trio and writes and performs with her amazing husband, Ron Smith!

The Curves are thrilled to be working on the next CD release for Christmas 2012. Yes, we are thinking of snowflakes and eggnog while catching a few Vegas sun rays!

We have already made appearances this month on The Dennis Bono Show, The Will Edwards Show and look for us on Mother’s Day at the San Gennaro Feast at the Rio!

Head on over to our Facebook Page and be sure to “LIKE” us to hear about our upcoming shows and new music! And, as always, we are so grateful to have you in our curvy family and have the most curvalicious day possible!

Curvy in the City of Angels and the official last post of 2011!

The City of Angels, specifically Studio City,  will forever be in the hearts of these curvy girls.  Our first ever official cabaret show, under the musical direction of Dan Ellis, was a truly amazing experience.  The room was filled with friends and family and even a couple of reviewers.  But, we’ll get to that…

It all started in June with confirmation of our being booked at Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitellos, a Los Angeles gem of a cabaret room and supper club reminiscent of  NYC.   Then it became a whirlwind of rehearsals, song choices, shows and just plain ol’ hard work! But, it was definitely all worth it!  We even had an official merchandise table (run by Karen’s MIL and SIL, thanks girls!) filled with cute stuff to buy and buy they did!

We were fortunate enough to be reviewed by 2 reviewers, Don Grigware  Don Grigware is an Ovation nominated actor and writer whose contributions to theatre through the years have included 6 years as theatre editor of NoHoLA, a contributor to LA Stage magazine and currently on his own website:    www.grigwaretalkstheatre.com    Here’s our review!  http://losangeles.broadwayworld.com/article/BWW-Reviews-Dangerous-Curves-Deliver-Harmoniously-Sterlings-20111206##ixzz1gpMFSnkm

and secondly by   Robert Machray   Robert Machray has appeared in over 150 plays and has worked at 14 Tony Award-winning theatres. He has been nominated for and won numerous awards. Here we are with Michael Sterling after our show and after a delicious meal of  salad and pasta (gluten free!) and lovely wine.

We are beside ourselves with glee and gratitude over these reviews!  We simply have to thank our husbands, our families and our friends for all their time, love and support in our effort to elevate and share our music beyond Las Vegas.  This endeavor would not happen without them and we are so blessed to have each and every one of them in our lives.

The world is looking mighty rosy and curvy as we peer into 2012.  Come along with us and let’s live out our dreams together!  Dangerous Curves is about the beauty of music and the strength of self. No matter who you are, where you are, what you are, you can achieve your dreams!  Let us know your plans and dreams and schemes for 2012, we’d love to hear from you.

The girls of Dangerous Curves, Lisa Smith, Margaret Menzies and Karen Michaels wish you a love-filled Holiday season, and a dream-filled 2012!

Happy Thanksgiving and Hello LA from the girls of Dangerous Curves!

Can you believe it’s almost Thanksgiving?! We’ll tell you a big, curvy secret…WE CAN’T EITHER!  We’ve been writing shows, writing new arrangements, recording in the studio for our new Christmas EP and preparing for our cabaret debut at Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitello’s! To tell you the truth, it really is time for some delicious turkey, stuffing and a lovely glass of Chardonnay! Gluten free for Lisa, please! Check out her Gluten Free info here!

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of performing at one of our local and beautiful theatres, Freedom Hall. What a lovely audience on a fab Vegas Sunday afternoon! We performed many Dangerous Curves favorites like our Radio Medley, with songs such as Sentimental Journey, Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and features of actual radio moments of the past, Natural Woman, I’m A Woman and many more!

We even had a real merchandise table with our new items! A darling T shirt, a handy shopping bag, a useful keychain and of course our CD, Girl Talk!

We were quite overwhelmed with everyone’s interest and generosity with our merch and very grateful!  If you are interested in any of our items check out our Curvy Boutique.

Now, our focus is on December 4th and our cabaret debut at Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitello’s! Our show is called, Dangerous Curves…finding Harmony on the road less traveled… it is a blend of some of our faves and new arrangements too!  From Judy Garland to Stephen Sondheim to contemporary composers like Scott Alan, we are taking you on a musical journey to share the Dangerous Curves message.  What is that message?  YOU are wonderful and powerful, exactly as you are!  Work hard to make the most of yourself and you are sure to achieve love and success! It is our goal for ourselves and we want to share it with you! Plus, as you can see we just have so much fun with each other and our fabulous Musical Director, Dan Ellis, what better way to spend a Sunday evening than with Dangerous Curves?! Make reservations right away!

Sam’s Town, Suncoast, San Gennaro Feast, Studio Time…

Let’s stick with the apparent “S” theme and say it’s been a simply spectacular time in this Curvy adventure of ours!

We had the pleasure of hosting the Thursday afternoon shows at Sam’s Town and the Suncoast Hotel & Casino with some truly amazing talent! Entertainers like, Tony Sacca, Art Vargas, Laura Schaffer, Dennis Michaels, some of the cast of Smokey Joe’s Cafe and Big Daddy Jeff Wayne (who is hilarious) to name just a few!  The audiences for these shows are absolutely wonderful and loving and we always have a fantastic time.

The San Gennaro Feast was held at the Rio and we performed on the main stage Wednesday night.  It rained all day until 4pm and then poof! Perfect, balmy,  breezy weather! Once again,  the audience was exuberant and loving and we had a blast!  The band, headed by our musical director, Dan Ellis, was fantastic! Other performers included the likes of  Lena Prima (we love her voice!), Domenick Allen, impersonators (Cher and Pat Benatar came out to play) and SO many more! The Festival is so much fun! Great food and fun and rides.  Check out that awesome Ferris Wheel in the background! You may be getting ready for the Autumn Equinox, (this Friday, September 23rd at 9:05 am Universal Time!) but we have visions of sugar plums and sleigh rides in the snow in ours! Yes, we are in the studio again and this time it’s for our first ever Holiday EP!  We are so excited,  we can hardly hold on to our proverbial Christmas stockings!  And, what a perfect stocking stuffer it would make!  As soon as we can, we’ll let you know the “what, where and how”!

For booking and info and general curvacious fun, find us at dangerouscurveslasvegas.com, like us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter!

The Big Apple in Sin City!

Sin City put on her fancy pants, Wednesday and Thursday (August 24th and 25th) and welcomed Jim Caruso’s Cast Party straight from NYC and Birdland and locally produced by Dennis Ritz.  Cast Party is headlined by the sensational duo of Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch!  These two men exude charisma, charm and talent and it was an absolute pleasure to watch them work.

But, we are getting ahead of our Curvy selves! In case you are one of the 3 people who don’t know, let us tell you what Cast Party is all about! The Dynamic Duo comes to your town and and showcases some of the fabulous talent that resides there! Jim is the host and graciously leads each person through their “moment to shine”, while Billy’s monumental skills as an accompanist lift each singer to their best performance.  You can find their schedule here and even request a visit to your city!  Nothing but curvalicious fun!

Alexis Park All Suite Resort was the host hotel and they did a great job with room set up, delicious food offerings and yummy drinks served by great girls and guys, like our cocktail waitress, Brandi.

Now speaking of curvalicious fun, your very own Dangerous Curves were honored to perform not one, but two songs! We did our own curvified (thanks Gret for that great word!) versions of “Cloudburst” and “I’m A Woman” and had an absolute blast!  The room was positively filled to the brim with talent, like Kelly Clinton-Holmes, Clint Holmes, Bill Fayne, Dennis Michaels (yes, Karen’s husband did an awesome job on a comedy piece by Marcy and Zina!), Frankie Moreno and SO many more!  Read a full rundown of both nights and the great work done by all, by Las Vegas’ own and friend of the Curves, Claire Voyant.  If you missed it this time you are in luck! Jim Caruso’s Cast Party will be returning in September! Stay tuned!

We are about to go into the studio to begin recording on our newest CD, which will be released around December.  Yes, it was 106 degress today in fabulous Sin City, but we are thinking snowflakes, hallelujahs and midnight clears!  Uh-oh!  We don’t want to give away too much, but we are SO excited about this CD!

Subscribe to our blog for all the update-to-date news about your Curves! We just LOVE hearing from you, so drop us a line anytime! Enjoy the last official week of Summer and try to keep it curvy and cool!

Curvy and Talkin’ with The Will Edwards Show

We had the absolute delight and honor to be the musical guests of the newest talk show in Las Vegas, The Will Edwards Show.  Here’s their press release:
